Environment
Product design and the environment
Airedale, as part of the Modine Manufacturing Company, is committed to minimising the impact of our manufacturing operations on the environment. This commitment extends to the air conditioning products we produce. Our design engineers strive to develop products that continuously look to reduce the carbon footprint of a product.
All our engineers consider the environmental impact of each product we manufacture, not just the short term effect, but the entire life-cycle of a product. They constantly look at areas such as refrigerants, sound, indoor air quality and product efficiency when designing our products.
Environmental Policy
It is our policy to:
- Take a proactive approach to resolve environmental issues and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Train personnel in sound environmental practices.
- Pursue opportunities to conserve resources, prevent pollution and eliminate waste.
- Manufacture products in a responsible manner with minimum impact on the environment.
- Reduce our use of chemicals and minimise their release to the environment.
- Measure, control and verify environmental performance through internal and external audits.
- Continually improve our environmental performance.
Airedale has adopted the Modine Global Environmental policy and Environmental Management System. This is based on the international standard BS EN ISO 14001:2004, with additional stringent Modine requirements. (Click for certificate)
As of February 2005, 26 Modine facilities have completed their EMS implementation and achieved registration to ISO 14001. An additional five locations have been identified to implement Modine's EMS, including the world headquarters in Racine, Wisconsin and European headquarters in Bonlanden, Germany.
Modine introduced its Energy Conservation Initiative in October 2004, challenging its worldwide facilities to reduce energy consumption – including electricity and fuel - by 12% over the fiscal 2004 baseline. Modine surpassed that goal in fiscal 2006 by achieving an 18% decrease in energy consumption (normalized for sales) over the fiscal 2004 baseline. This past year, more than two thirds of all Modine facilities reduced their use of fuel and electricity.
These advances are critical in the face of sharply rising energy costs and the global dependence on fossil fuels. Modine's energy conservation improvements over the past two years saved 81,000 tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the emissions found within 8.4 million gallons of petrol.
To continue this momentum, each Modine location has established energy reduction goals.

ISO 14001
In recognition of an ongoing commitment to the environment Airedale is accredited with the new environmental standard ISO 14001. Throughout Airedale's UK manufacturing headquarters implementation of waste management schemes, audit procedures and recycling systems continually identify and monitor potential threats to the environment.
