Airedale celebrates tenth consecutive win in International Safety Awards

Leeds, UK, May 20, 2008  -

Significant and sustained achievements in safety standards over a 10 year period has won global air conditioning manufacturer Airedale a tenth consecutive award from one of the world’s leading training and advisory bodies.

The esteemed International Safety Award has been granted to Airedale by the British Safety Council, itself celebrating its 50th year. Following gruelling tests by a strict independent adjudicating panel, awards are bestowed on those companies with good safety policies, plans and a clear commitment to health and safety. They must also provide information about significant advances they have made in health and safety for the year.

Receiving the award on behalf of Airedale at a special banquet at the Grosvenor Hotel in London attended by 1,100 guests, was test centre engineer Dave Andrew who is a member of Airedale’s Health and Safety Team.

Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, Mr Brain Nimick, says: “For more than 50 years, we have led the way in promoting health, safety and environmental best practice in society. In the 21st century, many organisations worldwide are now making health and safety a top priority. Through achieving an International Safety Award, Airedale is helping to make our vision of a safe working environment a reality.”

Prime Minister Gordon Brown added his support: “I am delighted to send my congratulations to all of those organisations being presented with an award by the British Safety Council. These awards recognise the success that these organisations and their employees have achieved in their pursuit of excellence in the management of health, safety and environmental matters.”

Says Airedale Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist, Brenda Hemingway:  “Airedale has always promoted a positive safety culture and over the past 12 months at our 360-strong Leeds facility, we have reduced the number of accidents by 15.6% against a target of 10%.

“As one of ten members of Airedale’s Health and Safety Committee, Dave offers his services voluntarily to identify possible safety problems before they arise.  Every department has a say in Health and Safety within the company and is fully supported by senior management.”
