On Thursday 28th October 2011, Employment Minister Chris Grayling and Stuart Andrew MP visited Airedale International Air Conditioning’s Leeds based head office and manufacturing plant.
During the visit, Minister Grayling was keen to outline the Government’s policies to stimulate economic growth through manufacturing and create, “the right environment for business to grow”.
State-of-the-art Air Conditioning Training School
Central to the visit was Airedale’s £250,000 air conditioning and refrigeration training school. The Minister and MP met with three of Airedale’s sixteen young apprentices; Jamie Acs, Adam Gillies and Leeds City College Apprentice of the Year, Danny Carter and discussed what it was like to complete a modern day apprenticeship with Airedale.
Airedale Managing Director, Clive Parkman and Airedale Service and Training Manager Adrian Trevelyan showed Minister Grayling the training school, demonstrating how the facility combines on the job training and theoretical learning with its air conditioning, electrical and brazing workshops. The school allows Airedale to provide an extensive programme of training for apprentices and continues to update the skills of its 380 UK based employees and extensive network of business partners. The school also provides a vast choice of air conditioning and refrigeration courses to third parties including companies such as BT .
Following the tour of the training school, Minister Grayling and MP Andrew witnessed the rigorous testing of a high efficiency air cooled TurboChill chiller in the test centre. They also experienced the extreme silence within the semi-anechoic noise test chamber and were very impressed with the range of testing facilities on site.
High end niche technologies
The visit was concluded with a full factory tour, where Minister Grayling was shown the precision air conditioning and chiller air conditioning manufacturing areas. Upon leaving, Mr. Grayling commented that he was particularly impressed with the “high end, niche technologies” being developed at Airedale Air Conditioning and was pleased to see a UK manufacturer doing so well in a global market.
