We are very proud to announce that Mark Dowell, one of our Business Unit Managers, has just qualified to represent Great Britain in the 2014 ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships (40-44 age group).
With a time of 1 hour 7 minutes, Mark, aged 43, qualified in the sprint distance race at Oulton Park, Cheshire on Sunday, 6 October 2013, finishing just 4 minutes behind the overall winner and 4th in his age group.
This is the first time Mark has attempted a short distance event which involved a 2.7 mile run, 13.5 mile cycle race and further 2.7 mile run. His more usual, standard distance duathlon would see him complete a grueling 6 mile run, 25 mile cycle and 3 mile run. Mark also competes in longer triathlons up to iron man distance taking 12 hours to complete.
Mark, who is a qualified Engineer with a Masters degree in Manufacturing Leadership, combines his working life with a grueling training regime of intensive exercise. In addition to the drive to achieve peak levels of fitness, Mark is also fascinated by the science behind the sport which he believes goes hand-in-hand with his engineering background.
While waiting to find out more about next year’s international competition, Mark is already considering going for a hat trick by registering for more duathlon trials including the Sprint Distance World Championships and the standard Distance European Championships.
Mark, who lives in Rawdon, was cheered along on the day by his son, Sam, aged 6 and wife Lucy.Back to news section
