The challenge Victoria & Albert Museum case study

The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in London is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design. A Grade 1 listed building, the V&A houses a permanent collection of over 4.5 million objects spanning 5,000 years of art. Embarking on a £150 million renovation programme and with 1,000 computers on the site, there was a need for a new data centre and appropriate, reliable and efficient cooling of the space.

Airedale solution

  • 4 x EasiCool™ 40kW downflow precision air conditioning units providing intelligent environmental control of the space

  • 4 x 40kW condensers on the roof of the building plus a vertical pipe run of 25 metres

  • 24/7 service support

“We have put in an energy efficient model. The EasiCool™ is a robust, wellsized design for the room and is giving excellent performance.

The prime driver is the resilience of the IT systems; reliability of the cooling system is key.

We also have a maintenance contract with Airedale that gives us remote alarm monitoring. Airedale knows about a change in state before we do.”
